Myristica brings the spice of life to Bristol

India is a vast country with equally immense regional variations in food. At newly-opened Myristica in King Street the traditional Indian menu has been re-written to give food fans a truly authentic taste of the modern sub continent in all its diversity.

From traditional street food and popular beach snacks to the most luxurious dishes served in top hotels, Myristica have recruited top chefs to bring this food with passion from India.

Brothers Amit and Tosh Lakhani are behind the exciting new venture. They want to create something Indian run by Indians not specifically for Indians but for all people who enjoy Indian cuisine.

Head chef Selva is from Madras and worked for the Taj Hotel group before moving to England where he worked at the Tamarind in London's West End. The remainder of the chef brigade, with one from Punjab and two from Bombay. Each chef specialises in a different section of the kitchen - curry, tandoori, sauces and desserts, and vegetarian dishes and garnishes.

Unlike most Indian restaurants that use one curry sauce as a base for all their dishes, at Myristica all sauces will be made individually to order so diners will be able to get a truly authentic flavour of Indian food.

The menu will be updated regularly to accommodate seasonality, and if your favourite dish isn't on the menu then the chefs will do their best to oblige. Myristica also offers private dining facilities for up to 30 people and the whole restaurant can be hired for weddings and events.

Myristica can be translated as nutmeg or spice - but the whole experience is said to be 'with passion from India'. Amit explains: "We wanted a name that people wouldn't know but would soon associate with the experience of dining here. We hope it will soon be on everyone's lips and part of the vocabulary for food lovers in the south west."
