What people are saying about us...
An evening out at Myristica
We were looking forward to our first visit to Myristica and we weren't disappointed. The interior is spacious and beautifully fitted out in a contemporary design with large, white clothed tables and a very welcoming atmosphere. Amit, the owner, introduced himself. He and his brother have had two restaurants before and they are passionate about Indian food. All their ingredients are sourced locally and cooked fresh to order.
As an appetizer, we had a colourful assortment (some were orange and blue!) of Poppadoms and rice crackers with a range of pickles and chutney which were lovely.
The excellent wine list has been chosen to complement Indian food; house wines begin at £10.90 and there is a good selection of beers, including an Indian beer.
We had a mixed starter of shish kebab, chicken tikka, tandoori prawns and Bhel Puri. For me, the highlight was the chicken tikka which had obviously been marinated properly and not overcooked as it was tender and juicy. The jumbo king prawns, glazed with honey and mild chilli sauce were delicious, and most attractively served.
Amit explained that Bhel Puri was a very popular dish from Bombay that is sold on the beaches as a take away snack. It is a mixture of boiled chick peas, potatoes, puffed rice, fine sev (a sort of vermicelli) crushed puris, spicy peanuts, topped with tarmarind and chilli chutney.
For the main course we had a selection of dishes; Kashmiri lamb, Chicken de piazza, Karahi prawns and Kingfish moilee served with two types of rice. We particularly enjoyed the Kingfish moilee which is curried in fresh limes, coconut and mild chillies and curry leaves. The delicate taste of the fish was still evident through the sauce which is a difficult cooking feat to perform and the whole dish was most appetising.
We liked the humour on the menu which lists Old Favourites and English Dishes, these being Vindaloo, Chicken Madras, Chicken Tikka Masala, Prawn Bhuna and Ahmet told us that he was always a tad disappointed when these were chosen as he would like to introduce people to some equally good dishes that are little known.
We thoroughly enjoyed our evening and Myristica would also be a very suitable place for any celebration as they have two well appointed private rooms for parties or corporate entertaining. Altogether Myristica comes highly recommended!
